Growing up in Birmingham, SG was introduced to music at a young age, thanks to his father, a drummer in a family band. This early exposure to music laid the foundation for his artistic journey. During his teenage years, an American cousin introduced him to rap, sparking a newfound passion. SG quickly took to rapping, embracing the art of freestyling and honing his skills in the genre.

As SG matured, his musical palette expanded upon discovering UK Garage through pirate radio broadcasts. Influenced by icons such as Vader, Devilman, and D.A.Z., SG saw an opportunity to innovate by fusing his foundational US rap skills with the dynamic beats of the UK scene. This synthesis of styles was SG’s initial step towards creating a distinct sonic identity.

The transition from Garage to Grime marked a pivotal chapter in SG’s journey. Joining the “Down N Dirty” crew, he delved into Grime, cutting his teeth in the Oxygen Rooms studios alongside luminaries like N.O.D.B and Devilman. This period was crucial, not just for SG’s development as an artist but for setting the stage for his recording career, facilitated by his collaborations with friend and producer Papez.

It wasn’t long before SG encountered Bassline at Sheridans in Dewsbury, transforming his musical journey. Initially drawn to the genre for its energetic vibes rather than performance opportunities, SG was content to simply enjoy the music. His engagement with the Bassline scene deepened at post-rave gatherings where he met MNT, Asher, Sickmade Man & Tez Kidd. These events, brimming with spontaneous freestyle sessions, became a hub for creative exchange, shifting SG from an observer to an active scene participant. It was through these interactions that SG began integrating his rap roots with Bassline’s dynamic energy.

When SG and MNT stumbled upon a compelling Subzero production, they knew they had to have it. Their determination led SG to DJ Total’s Leicester studio, setting the stage for “Hmmm Yesss,” SG’s debut Bassline single. With MNT having already laid down the verse and hook, SG’s contributions completed the song, forging a hit that exemplified their chemistry and solidifying its status as a Bassline anthem.

Riding the wave of “Hmmm Yesss,” SG’s collaborations flourished, notably with Birmingham’s Bass Boy. A chance meeting in Bass Boy’s studio, alongside Slick Don, gave rise to “Ohhh Yesss”. The catchphrase “Ohh Yesss,” originally from Slick Don, was voiced by Bass Boy’s sister for the track, with SG skillfully weaving his verses around the hook, resulting in another celebrated entry in the genre.

SG, now a prominent figure in the Bassline scene, found himself performing regularly and touring extensively with Bigoss and Jalla in their Mercedes Vito, dubbed the “Warbus Tourbus” due to its relentless touring schedule. This period marked the formation of a collective that included additional members like Don P from As It Is TV, further expanding their influence. Together, SG and his team made a significant impact on the UK music scene, showcasing their talent and passion across the country.

Fast forward to 2024, SG’s passion and creativity burn as brightly as ever. With a relentless drive to innovate within the UK Garage sphere, SG’s contributions resonate with an unmistakable energy that radiates his infectious enthusiasm, affirming his influential legacy in the Bassline genre.
