JTJ PRODUCTIONS: THE COME UP

Hailing from Leicester, JTJ Productions is a music collective formed by long-time friends Joshy P, Tubman, and Jordz, who’ve shared a bond for over 25 years. Their musical journey began when Jordz got his hands on Cubase, sparking their collaborative efforts. At this point, Joshy P was already making waves as a young producer, crafting hip-hop beats for local rappers at just 14, while Tubman found inspiration from Sheffield’s Niche nightclub, experiencing Bassline firsthand.

Deciding to combine their talents, JTJ Productions was born, a nod to the initials of their first names. With the landscape dominated by Garage and Grime, Bassline collectives like theirs were rare. Their first project, a bootleg of Britney Spears’ “Slave 4 U,” gained traction with guidance from Shaun โ€˜Bangerโ€™ Scott, marking their entry into the Bassline scene.

The trio embarked on a mission to understand the dance floor’s pulse by attending Bassline shows nationwide, despite Joshy P being only 16. Armed with insights, they produced “Itโ€™s You,” initially met with skepticism for its aggressive sound. However, DJ EJ saw its potential, featuring it on EJucation Volume 11, catapulting it to become a sought-after track in Ayia Napa by summer 2007. The track’s success even crossed over to Grime, with heavyweights like Boy Better Know incorporating it into their sets.

The discovery of singer Sacha on Myspace led to their collaboration on “No Means No,” further establishing JTJ’s presence in the scene with support from DJ Cameo and inclusion in Ministry Of Soundโ€™s “The Sound Of Bassline 2.” As a staple on the Bassline circuit, JTJ played shows nationwide, captivating audiences with their distinct sound.

After a hiatus following Bassline’s dip in popularity around 2010, the trio reconvened in 2023 to release new music and their classic anthems, reinvigorating the genre and delighting fans old and new. JTJ Productions’ journey is a testament to their enduring impact on Bassline, symbolising both a nostalgic return and a fresh beginning for the genre.
