DJ EJ: DA FARDA OF 4X4 BASSLINE

DJ EJ, is a transformative figure within the Bassline scene. His introduction to underground music came in 1994, where he began his career as a Jungle MC on pirate radio. However, as Jungle music grew moodier & more aggressive, EJ transitioned to UKG.

In 1996, EJ bought his first vinyl records & quickly mastered the art of mixing. Within months, he built a fan base & began performing live locally. By 1997, he had secured his own show on Frontline FM. His dedication & hard work led to nationwide performances at some of the biggest Garage promotions.

EJโ€™s journey into music production started at this time. His first track became a hit in the Midlands scene, attracting attention from key figures in the underground music community. In 2003, as Garage evolved into Grime, EJ focused on producing music, aiming to have his tracks officially released. His efforts paid off as his productions gained support on radio, leading to interest from record labels.

2004 saw EJโ€™s debut release, with his 4×4 remix of LASโ€™s โ€œVIPโ€ that charted at number 1 on the 1Xtra UKG charts, securing him a spot on ARMY Records. By 2006, his career had further advanced with the release of the โ€œSoldierz EP,โ€ featuring some of the hottest talent in the Grime scene. This period marked EJโ€™s shift towards 4×4 & Speed Garage, where his innovative mindset would soon make a significant impact.

EJโ€™s โ€œEJucationโ€ mix series, launched around this time, served as a platform to showcase emerging talent & became a beacon for genre enthusiasts. This monthly mix series invited listeners to explore the depths of 4×4 Bassline, highlighting fresh sounds & elevating the genre to new heights. The โ€œEJucationโ€ series quickly became the most respected mix series within the genre, cementing EJโ€™s legacy as โ€˜Da Fardaโ€™ of Bassline.

2024, EJโ€™s influence remains strong. His pioneering work has inspired an entire generation of DJs, myself included, to pursue careers in music. His dedication to the craft & his innovative contributions have left an indelible mark on the Bassline scene, making him a true legend in the genre.
