SUBZERO: GIVE EM THE BASS

Subzero’s musical roots were planted in Manchester, where he grew up embedded in a vibrant musical atmosphere shaped by his father & uncle who ran a Reggae sound system. This early exposure to music paved the way for his interest in diverse genres, leading him to gravitate towards Grime as a teenager, particularly influenced by Donaeo’s “Bounce.”
Learning the art of DJing under his uncle’s tutelage, Subzero mastered mixing vinyl records, a skill that transitioned him into music production. He started experimenting with various sounds using Reason. His introduction to Bassline came in 2006 when he encountered T2’s mix “The Story So Far,” which inspired him to explore the genre due to T2’s unique blend of creativity while retaining a distinctive sonic signature.
“Rock With Me,” featuring Ideal, was Subzero’s breakout track, earning him significant recognition within the Bassline scene & leading to his first major DJ gig at Club Vibe in Sheffield. His success continued with “Rock With Me” being featured on the iconic “<<Rewind<<Back To The Old Skool” compilation by DJ EZ in 2007.
2008 marked a milestone with his first vinyl release on 7 Wonders, which included “Rock With Me” & “Be With Me” featuring Sacha. The latter became an iconic track in Bassline, supported by key DJ’s, & it featured in DJ Cameo’s Bassline compilation, securing its place as a genre-defining hit.
A collaboration in 2009 with Shystie produced the track “Pull It,” which became another anthem within Bassline, earning widespread acclaim & solidifying Subzero’s influence. Following the decline of Bassline, Subzero explored House music, refining his production techniques in a new genre.
The pandemic saw a resurgence of interest in Bassline, with Subzero actively participating in live streams under the banner “4 The Bassline Culture” with friends Murkz & TRC. This period reinvigorated the Bassline scene in the UK, leading to renewed nationwide performances.
Today, Subzero is celebrated for his distinctive sound, marked by his “Ayo Subzero” tag. He just released his Bassline archives, eagerly awaited by fans, which promises to further solidify his legacy & influence in the evolution in Bassline.
