SCREAMA: COMPLEX SIMPLICITY

Over the course of two decades, Birmingham’s Winson Green’s Screama has left his mark on every genre he’s blessed.
Screama’s musical journey began with the influence of popular TV shows like “Yo MTV Raps” & “The Soul of MTV”, sparking his interest in various music genres. His deep-seated inspiration from 90s Hip Hop led him to explore his creative potential both lyrically & musically by the age of 13, showcasing his freestyle skills in school playgrounds & earning the respect of his peers. By 14, Screama’s venture into music production took off with the PlayStation game “Music Generator,” taught by his friend Biggos.
In high school, Screama joined forces with other musically talented friends to form the group No Remorse, later known as 14:18. It was during this period that Screama, already a multi-talented individual, honed his skills, shifting his passion from football to music. His newfound interest in Grime led him & his crew to become regulars at local pirate stations & the iconic Oxygen Rooms, relentlessly showcasing their talents.
Screama’s introduction to Bassline came through trips with his crew to Niche nightclub in Sheffield, where he was captivated by the genre’s unique sound & energetic atmosphere. His college collaboration with friend Merkury on the track “Best Thing” marked his debut in Bassline, transforming a Grime song into a pioneering Bassline hit. This track’s success ignited a new direction for the Midlands Bassline scene, blending producer & MC elements in an unprecedented way.
Following “Best Thing,” Screama began to produce Bassline, infusing elements of his Grime background to create a darker, signature sound. Tracks like “The Gangster” became staples in the Bassline community, while his hit “Let Me Know” featuring Teresa earned a spot on the Ministry of Sound Bassline compilation in 2008.
Fast forward to 2024, Screama has become a qualified teacher, NLP practitioner, & graduate in Music Industry Practice. While continuing to produce for Birmingham’s top rappers, he has reignited his passion for Bassline & UKG productions, solidifying his legacy as a versatile & influential figure in the music industry.
