SOLOMAN – BOKEH CREEPER: 10 YEARS LATER

“Bokeh Creeper” is celebrating its 10th birthday this year, & looking back, it’s incredible to see how a song that began as a personal Dubplate for my sets has evolved into a beloved track. The journey of “Bokeh Creeper” started back in 2014 when I created my track “Bokeh.” Realising its melodic similarities to Danny Weed’s “Creeper,” I decided to rework the melody in the project file, giving birth to what would become “Bokeh Creeper.”

At first, I kept the track as a Dubplate, playing it exclusively in my performances. However, as more people heard it, requests from other DJs began to pour in. Mystry & Slimzee were among the first to help the track gain traction. In 2016, I vividly remember hanging out with friends in a car park, making music, when Slimzee told me he planned to drop the track during his reunion set with Wiley on Rinse FM. We sat in the car, eagerly listening to the show, & when Slimzee finally played it, it stopped Wiley in his tracks. “Soloman, understand bro”. That moment was pivotal, & soon after, leading Grime DJs began reaching out to me for the track.

It didn’t take long for “Bokeh Creeper” to become a go-to track for DJs looking to ignite a crowd. It became a staple in live shows of notable acts such as P Money, Kurupt FM, & CasIsDead. The track’s legacy was further cemented in 2020 when Sir Spyro played it on Channel 4’s “Big Narstie Show”. Where Grime legends Kano & Big Narstie went back-to-back on the song & it became a viral hit on social media, amassing millions of plays.

“Bokeh Creeper” didn’t just stay within the Grime world; it resonated across various other scenes, becoming one of the few Grime instrumentals to achieve recognition in an array of genre’s. Holding it down in the UK scene whilst simultaneously being a main stage song for international acts as big as Marshmello.

It’s remarkable to see how a song that was never officially released could generate such worldwide traction. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, we’ve decided to release the song publicly for the first time. Head over to the Gentlemens Club SoundCloud to grab your copy.
