ENIGMA DUBZ: THE COME UP

Enigma Dubz was immersed in a musical atmosphere from a young age, his mother who was a classical singer & often performed across the UK. His first foray into music began at age 5, studying & performing in various orchestras. However, his interests weren’t confined to classical music alone; his youthful visits to HMV to admire CD covers hinted at his broader musical curiosity.

His pivotal encounter with UK Garage occurred when he walked past a nightclub playing Beatfreaks’ “Speakerbox” after a classical concert in 2002. This experience at just 14 years old led him to purchase “Pure Garage Bass Breaks & Beats”, marking the start of his deep engagement with the genre.

Enigma’s journey into DJ’ing began early, when purchasing CD decks at 14 & eventually vinyl at 16. His early production days were eclectic, dabbling in Trance, UK Garage, Grime, & DnB, starting with Reason before moving to Fruity Loops. Adopting the alias “DJ V,” he released music primarily in the Speed Garage & Bassline genres. This era included starting his own label, Visualize Records, with Rolla.

Enigma first stumbled upon Bassline while tuning into Silk City around 2005, drawn by the raw sound & pirate radio presentation. He fondly remembers tracks like DJ Veteran’s “Funky Stuff”.
Milestones in his career as DJ V included his debut vinyl release “Fruitcake” on Jump Records & his hit track “If You,” which remains popular to this day. His exploration of Dubstep began at university in Leeds, attending a Subdub event that profoundly changed his musical direction.

Enigma’s first Dubstep track, “Rarse,” surprised his peers when he posted it on the Silk forum under his new alias. His EP, “7 Deadly Dubz,” released on Bigger Than Barry, was a crucial step in his career.

Now, with over 17 years in the industry, Enigma’s album ‘Awakening’ marked a significant phase in 2022, & he continues to expand his influence with ongoing projects, tours, & nurturing new talent through his label. His ability to juggle multiple projects & continuously produce music at a prolific rate highlights his enduring commitment to the evolving music scene.
